As seen on Our Today

Sts Peter and Paul pulled a stunning upset to land at 82 points, moving to the head of the pack on day two of the 2025 JISA Prep Schools Championships, powered by GK General Insurance and GK Mutual Funds, at the National Stadium on Friday evening.

After four finals, the defending Champions from Hope Road scored an additional 76.5 points to move from sixth place, predicting what may be the second consecutive win for the team. As the 48th staging prepares for the final day of competition, 26 finals are left to be contested to determine who will walk away with the winning trophy. These include the Class 3 Girls and Boys 4X100 m relay, the Class 1 Boys’ Long Jump, the Class 1 Girls 200M, and the Ball throw open for boys.

Other Major Upsets

With Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) falling in the ranks, other schools have risen. The current point standings are Vaz Preparatory 58 points, Mona, 49, Our Lady of the Angels, 37, Emmanuel Christian Academy, 35.5, and St Andrew Prep on 27.5. Mount St Joseph’s Prep of Mandeville is currently the highest-ranking rural school at the meet with 26 points.

Zion Reid of OLA pulled another win for the day, taking the Boys’ Class 2 long jump, in 4.36m. According to his coach, Grace Bourah, Reid is a talented all-rounder, and this win was expected.

Coming in second place for the same category in the long jump event was Sts Peter and Paul’s Jourdan Blake with a leap of 4.18m, third was Decian Stephens of Wolmer’s Prep with 3.99 m.

For the Girls’ Class 2 Long Jump event, Immaculate Prep’s Zion May-Hew took home gold in 3.94. She was followed by Sts Peter and Paul’s Shaneika Shann with 3.91m, with Shakielia Baker placing third at 3.90m.

Jerome Kirby, Head Coach of Sts Peter and Paul, believes his team will take home the gold but will be watching Vaz Prep, who he believes will bring close competition. Kirby noted, “We’re ready to take home the trophy for a second year. The kids did remarkably well, and they stepped out on track. It was amazing, and it set a high tone for us all; we’re all motivated to do well going into the final day. We expected more medals in class 2, but we received 95% of what we wanted to accomplish. We are excited for the competition.”

Action gets started today at 9 a.m.
